Black Metal Band SHINING Performs 'Scandalous' Concert In Sweden; Video Available
February 10, 2007According to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Swedish black metallers SHINING performed a "scandalous" concert at Diezel in Halmstad, Sweden last Saturday (February 3). During the show, SHINING singer Niklas Kvarforth drank urine out of a bottle, was physically assaulted by a Norwegian fan, and cut himself with razorblades. [See photo at this location.]
"Stage antics are not supposed to represent normal behavior," Kvarforth told Aftonbladet.
The bloody razors were later handed out to the crowd, which consisted mostly of teenagers.
"I give the concert a 4 when it comes to playing and visually a 3 — it could have been worse," Kvarforth said.
According to Aftonbladet, SHINING's bassist quit the band immediately after the gig, and the organizer of the concert, Conny Jarlestål, told Sverige Radio Halland last Thursday (Feb. 8),"If I'd known what the performance was going to be like, I never would have arranged it in the first place. I wouldn't let my own kids go and see a SHINING concert."
Kvarforth himself seems oblivious to the criticism.
"It was a regular SHINING gig," he said.
The ultimate responsibility for the Diezel venue rests with the authorities who own the club and who rented it out to Conny Jarlestål.
"We rented the club out to Conny since we knew him and we believed that he could pull off the concert without any problems. But it went overboard," Pierre Rosen, the culture secretary in charge of Diezel's maintenance, told Hallandsposten.
